 Hayley Waltz

|
Hayley became interested in working with children on the autism spectrum while attending a psychology lecture at the University of Washington where she earned her BA in Psychology with a minor in special education in 2005. Hayley began working with children on the autism spectrum in 2003. She worked in conjunction with Fabrizio Moors Consulting where she became trained in precision teaching from 2004-2006. She also worked over two summers (2005 and 2006) at the FEAT (Families for Effective Autism Treatment) summer program as both a 1-1 and a paraeducator. She has worked closely with students in home, school, and community formats helping to both create programs and modify them as necessary.
Hayley has been part of developing IEP (Individualized Education Plans) for schools. Hayley worked as a preschool teacher at an inclusion school for two years with children ranging in age from 2-5 years old. In summer 2008, Hayley wrote curriculum for an inclusion summer camp and worked as a Program Manager for the children in kindergarten-first grade age group. Currently, Hayley is attending Ashford University's Graduate Program to earn her Masters in Psychology. She also is also preparing to start her BCBA program.

Dana McCarty, M.Ed.
Dana McCarty's interest in working with people with special needs began at the age of 8, when she first read the story of Helen Keller and decided that she wanted to be Annie Sullivan when she grew up. She enrolled in her first sign language course during her 10th grade year and in college designed her own major and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sensory Impairment at Central Washington University. Since then, she has worked as a Rehabilitation Teacher for Washington State Services for the Blind, as a team leader for a group home in Wenatchee, WA, as a para-educator and sign language interpreter for four area school districts and as a private tutor for children with special needs. Her experience as a para-educator in a Wenatchee elementary school self-contained classroom sparked her interest in teaching children with autism.
In 2006 she earned her Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education along with her Teacher's Certification with endorsement in Special Education. During her graduate work, she completed 6 quarters of field experiences and student teaching with children ages 3-21 in 3 different classroom settings/schools, including the University of Washington Project D.A.TA. (Developmental Appropriate Treatment for Autism) (preschool), Structured Learning Classrooms (elementary), and a Life Skills classroom for high school students. Ms. McCarty's training spans applied behavior analysis (including focus on functional behavior assessment) and also work in Relationship Development Interventions (RDI; Gutstein, 2005).
Dana particularly enjoys working with individual students and their families because of the opportunities to build relationships to work together as a team and to tailor each child's programming to meet the individual interests, strengths and learning styles of each student. Ms. McCarty plans to complete the remaining required courses and training to sit for the BACB© Board Certified Behavior Analyst in the near future. Ms. McCarty began her work with A.P.P.L.E. Consulting in June of 2008.
Lisa Lin, MA
Lisa recently moved to Bellevue from the San Francisco area. Lisa worked in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) as a Program Manager for "LEAP" (the district's in-house PreK in-home ABA program) and as the PreK Autism Content Specialist. As Program Manager, she developed and supervised each child's home program, which included the duties of conducting assessments, providing initial and continuing program development, and direct supervision and training of service providers. In her role as Pre-K Autism Content Specialist Lisa conducted behavior consultation and training to classroom teachers, other SFUSD staff and even to the larger community. Lisa was also involved in the training and monitoring of quality assurance in IEP development. We are excited to have Lisa's expertise both from the "in-home" perspective and the "school" perspective. Her experience developing successful partnerships across both school and home environments fits well with A.P.P.L.E.'s mission and we are excited to offer her expertise as Program Manager this Fall! Lisa will also be the Curriculum Director and Lead Teacher for P.A.L.S.! Around Town
